Wristband materials compared: Tyvek, silicone, clip, woven and slap

The material decides whether a wristband works as a ticket, a colour-code, a souvenir or a giveaway. Use this as a short shortlist before you open a product page.

Tyvek

Tyvek is the standard single-use event band. It is lightweight, waterproof enough for outdoor use, and tears if someone tries to transfer it. Order plain colours for same-day jobs, or print black or full colour when you want a logo on the door.

Best for concerts, festivals, nightclubs, school formals and any venue that needs cheap, secure, colour-coded access.

Silicone

Silicone is a soft, reusable rubber band. People wear it after the event, which is why it dominates awareness campaigns, fundraisers and branded merch. Print, deboss, emboss or ink-fill the design depending on how bold you want the logo.

Best for promotions, schools, charities and giveaways. Not suitable as a paid-entry ticket.

Plastic clip

Plastic clip bands are thicker vinyl with a one-way locking clip. They survive sweat, water and a full weekend better than Tyvek, and they still destroy if someone forces the clip. Plain colours can ship the same day from 50 units. Custom print starts at 500 and takes longer.

Best for multi-day festivals, water parks, resorts and venues that need a tougher ticket than paper-style Tyvek.

Woven

Woven bands are fabric. Threaded designs are built from coloured yarns; full-colour woven uses dye sublimation. Pair them with a metal clamp or barrel lock if the band is also an access product. They look closer to festival merch than a disposable ticket.

Best for multi-day events that want a band people keep, VIP programs and premium brand activations. MOQ is typically 100, with about 7–10 days production.

Slap bands

Slap bands have a spring-steel core and wrap the wrist when you flick them on. Silicone slap bands are a playful promo piece. Vinyl slap bands take a larger printed area. Both are merch, not door control, and the usual minimum is 500 with a 14–16 day make.

Best for schools, kids’ events, sports clubs and brand giveaways where the product has to be fun to put on.

Frequently asked questions

Which wristband is the most secure?
Woven bands with a locking fastener are the hardest to transfer. Plastic clip and Tyvek are the usual secure options for general admission. Silicone and slap bands are reusable and should not be used as tickets.
Which material is best for a wet or outdoor event?
Plastic clip and silicone handle water best. Tyvek is weather-resistant for typical festival use but is still a lighter, single-use band.
